Points of light during Advent in Millstatt am See

With an audio Christmas story, a talking fairy tree, little wishes and a boat trip, Advent in Millstatt am See will be winter magic for the whole family. Available from 2 December 2023 to 6 January 2024.

“Come, I’ll tell you a Christmas fairy tale.” These are the phrases from childhood that resonate and evoke memories even today. After all, who doesn’t love them? – The stories of the Christmas season.

Audio story for the whole family
In Millstatt am See, guests will encounter a special story during Advent. Written especially by artist Monika Peitler for the “Millstatt Path of Light in Advent”, it tells of longing and yearning – of arriving and staying. In her fairy tale, the author guides the listener from the place of longing with only one goal: perhaps to find herself in the end. Thanks to the audio guide, families can experience the musical tale around the clock.

On the light path to the talking fairy tree
The newly designed light path runs for a distance of about 2.3 kilometres through the idyllic grounds of the historic Barbara Egger Park, into the city centre and ends at the lakeside. Discreetly lit trees illuminate the path. Fascinating light installations by light artist Hanno Kautz line the entrance portals of the venerable Millstatt Monastery, where an unforgettable Christmas surprise awaits young guests: the talking fairy tree. When the 750-year-old lime tree tells its fantastic tale of fairies and gnomes, everyone listens enthralled. During Advent, artist Ulrike Kofler will bring the Christmas atmosphere to the Barbara Egger Park every Thursday from 4pm. On 3, 8, 15 and 22 December, a wind ensemble will play from 19:00 to 20:00.

Sending wishes on the lake
How about sending our personal wishes on a magical journey this year? At Strandbad Millstatt, letter writers young and old can entrust their wishes to the lake every day. Just write your heart’s desire on the sail of the small wooden ship, light the candle on board and let the ship float away with peaceful thoughts.

Winter magic on the MS Porcia
The Advent season becomes truly magical with a winter boat trip when the MS Porcia departs on Saturdays and Sundays and selected other dates. Captain Josef Schuster shows his passengers the special charms of an idyllic lake landscape in the middle of winter. Cuddling up in blankets on the heated ship and letting the view of the illuminated lake shore and snow-capped mountain peaks float away – these are the moments that go straight to the heart.

Culinary delights
If you’re looking for Christmas delicacies, follow the smell of Christmas baked goods, cinnamon and orange punch, OR even easier: the “torches of light” set up – they point the way to open gastronomy.
